From humble beginnings….
Mission Impossible was run by WA Rovers for a number of years as an overnight wide game for Venturers. It was run quite successfully for a long time, attracting up to 50 Venturers to each event. In the late 90s, interest waned and the event was dropped. In 2000, the then WARC Chairman Tania Cobham took an interest in developing closer ties with the Venturer Section, as had the new BC for Venturers Sandra Morris. WARC appointed Scott Sargant to head the resurrection of Mission Impossible later that year.
During the 2001 Australian Jamboree in NSW, Scott visitied “Endurance 2001” and met committee members of NSW’s Dragonskin. With a quick tour of the Endurance set up and at the Dragon Skin Committee's invitation, Scott returned to NSW at Easter that year with four Venturers and another Venturer Leader in tow. Having driven across the Nullabor they arrived at Sunny Corner near Bathurst just in time to take part in "Dragonskin 2001: A Space Oddity". With the full and generous support of the Dragonskin organisers, Scott returned to WA to put the wheels in motion on reformatting Mission Impossible into the event it is today.
The Unlikely Victims Scott enlisted the help of a number of unsuspecting Rovers to form the inaugural Mission Impossible organising committee, with the promise of a " quick meeting " to discuss a fun new idea and a few free drinks. The Committee of Scott Sargant, Kylie “Chook” Chegwidden, “Wally” McDonald, Chris “Busta” Higham, “Big Dave” Kelly, JT, Tom Clarkson, and Conrad Slee then set about the work ahead of them to pull the event together in just 3 months.
With time not on their side, but with the full support of the WA Branch team - most notably Sandra Morris (BC Venturers) and Larry Lucas (ACC Youth Services), the event went full steam ahead, with the aim of attracting some 60 support staff and 150 competitors
